New Basket Placements up at Muse Park
Release Date: August 21, 2006
The new basket placements are in the ground, and the baskets have been moved. Every hole has a new placement with the exception of #12. The city did not want it closer to the road because it was deemed a safty risk. There is still some clean-up work to be done around some of the holes, and that should be completed this week. The baskets will remain in the current place for a few weeks. Tournament play may dictate they need to be moved. Go play Muse park and enjoy the new placements.

Good Turnout at 1st OfficialMuse Pickup Scramble
Release Date: May 20, 2007
We had 12 participants to makeup our 6 Teams for the Muse Pickup Scramble. We knew that last Sunday, being Mother's Day, would be a lightly attended affair, so in order to give folks a chance to enjoy a day of team oriented DG action, we arranged for a follow up day on the subsequent Sunday. Scores were very good. The winning Team of Ronnie Smith & William Donnell turned in a very respectable -12 and will be enjoying $20 worth of hospitality, each, from Longhorn Steakhouse. Chuck 'Discman' Doumitt. & Brian'Bearmaster' Joyce, along with Brian '10-4' Cates and Richard 'Slick' Kinzer each contributed a -10. We had a brother team consisting Al & Peter Star join us. They were first timers with the JADGC, but I expect that we will be seeing plenty more of them. They seem like our kind of people as they give the impression of a couple of guys teetering on being ravenous about Disc Golf. In addition to enjoying some great Disc Golf and a fabulously beautiful day, these golfers can take pride in knowing that they made the initial contribution to the Pope Park Developmental fund, as $1 of each entry fee will be going toward this goal. The next Monthly Doubles will take place Sunday, June 10, at 2:00. Plan on joining us for more of the same kind of fun.

Good Times Keep on Comin'
Release Date: June 10, 2007
Month 3 produces another good turnout for the Muse Park Monthly Random Scramble. 12 participants assembled for a great afternoon of Random Doubles. Dr.Doug and Chuck 'Discman' Doumitt put the bar very high with a score of -14. This is the highest thus far in Scramble competition. 2nd place dragged way back with a pale performance of -10 by Charlie'Lefty', Coleraine and Robert'The Keeper'Rickett. Our first female participant in Scramble battle was Laura Kinzer. She paired with her beleaguered husband, Richard 'Slick' Kinzer for a very satisfying -7. Laura carried the putting bucket for 9 holes before Richard was required to contribute. Not a bad performance considering it had been 2 years since she seriously mixed it up. Share this news with all your female significant others. Wouldn't it be great if we could have a day of mixed doubles!! Let the lady in your life know that other lady golfers exist and that we want to support them in an afternoon of relaxation. A brief after round give and take was conducted. Topics included the contingent of players that were planning on making a showing at the Pickwick Plantation Inaugural, on June 16. All interested in sharing a ride to this day long tournament should contact Richard at 234-0865. Also, the topic of putting together another Pope Developmental round at Pope Park on Westview, was brought up. After talking about some of the competing activities in the immediate coming weekends, it appears that early July may be the soonest that this could be put together. Details will follow. The Mole Hill Monthly Scramble was flagged as an event that all were encouraged to attend on June 30. See the Mole Hill Section of the forum for details. Chuck Harvey, a long lost disc golfer, made us aware that Youth Town, located between Jackson and Henderson on Highway 45, was interested in installing a 9 Hole course for their clients to use. He mentioned it because he felt that they could use our input in course layout and consultation. I collected the appropriate name of the contact individual there. First step may be to possibly set up a temporary course similar to how we have done at Pope, just to see how the currently proposed layout flows. Sounds as if this could be the course in our area that actually requires a great drive, great up shot and decent putt to par. Next Monthly Doubles Scramble will be July 14 at 2:00. We currently have raised $24 toward the development of Pope through this monthly event. Also, a surplus, resulting from the previous two month's scrambles, of $16 will be liquidated at next month's event. Unless someone offers a better method of disbursement, I am leaning toward a closest to the pin competition on hole #2. What better way to give all players a shot at an obtainable award. Pass the word that we want players. If participation outstrips the number of gift certificates I have on hand, I'll gladly make a run and buy more.

New Club Champion Crowned
Release Date: November 11, 2007
Following an anemic first round at Muse, Chuck Doumitt put together a stellar long distance clinic to capture the 2nd Jackson area Disc Golf Club Championship. The entire field had a difficult time with Muse. Despite calm winds and a slight crispness in the sun drenched azure cloudless sky, no one managed to dominate Muse's Green Tee Box positions. Visitor, Mark "Kid" Mills and Richard "Slick" Kinzer lead the way with a barely presentable -2 on the first round at Muse. The rest of the field followed with equally mediocre scores. Chuck did himself a favor by keeping it close in this initial round with a +1. Following a great refresher at Reggie's BBQ, the full group of 14 were split into two flights, the Blue and the White, and proceeded to the often unfriendly confines of Union's outstretched acreage. Chuck, obviously unintimidated by the expanses of Union or the slight hole he dug for himself at Muse assailed the course with a even par effort. Brian “Bear” Joyce and Robert “The Keeper” Rickett followed in his wake with a pair of +3s. Union chewed up and spat out the tye dyed “Kid”Mills, the poofy haired “Slick” Kinzer as well as our out of town guests Larry & Brandon, from Columbia, Tn, Daniel Rishton hailing from Memphis, Alabama's Bill & David Rickett. We were pleased to share our Championship with these out of towners. This was our first time to open the event up to non-club members, but judging from the success of the offer, I suspect it won't be the last. Under the darkness of a Milky Way rich sky and with a bond fire backdrop, formal awards presentations were made at The Farm. Chuck, as the overall Club champion, will be dining at Picasso's in the near future and Bear, as the winner of the White Division, will be putting a dent in the Longhorn inventory. Each winner also received their choice of two Club issued discs. In actuality, all players were winners on this carefree day. In addition to a club provided burger feast, we all enjoyed another successful JADGC event where fun and friendship were the main focus. A very special word of thanks has to go out to David Gray, who went to a substantial amount of effort in loaning us his numerous portable baskets. He and Robert, as well as several others, did a yeoman's job of dispersing nine targets across Union in order for us to have a full compliment of 18 baskets. Next on the agenda is a RIPT outing. Brian “Chainrattler” Williams has donated a deck of RIPT cards to the club. Go to http://www.knagames.com/Ript%20Community/Community.htm for details on RIPT. Details will be posted on the Forum.
